I am fluent in English, Cantonese and Putonghua, and admitted to practice law in Hong Kong and Fiji. I am currently a China-Appointed Attesting Officer, and appointed Chairman of the Appeal Tribunal Panel under the Building Ordinance (Hong Kong) and Disciplinary Panel member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Over the last 17 years, I have gained strong cross-border corporate and commercial experience in China, Macau, Hong Kong and several other offshore jurisdictions, and dealt with high level regulatory investigations and dispute resolution cases. I have also gained strong litigation experience in Fiji, Hong Kong and China; and latterly, as a partner of the law firm Samuel L. C. Yang & Co., worked more commercially for ultra-high net-worth clientele from China, Hong Kong and Macau on global and regional mergers and acquisitions, advising on investment structures, trusts and succession planning.
Between 2007 and 2018, I was engaged by the Government of Fiji to prosecute a number of very high-profile corruption and abuse of office cases by several senior public servants. From time to time I am called upon to advise Chinese and Hong Kong based clients on various commercial and investment issues in Fiji, and travel to Fiji and the Pacific regularly for work and continuing legal education purposes.
